In this hand-fabricated sterling silver brooch, a brutalist architectural grid encounters the raw, unpolished energy of nature. By recycling production scrap and silver filings, I create a gritty surface mirroring city infrastructure. Enclosed by this rigid axis are vivid green uvarovite garnet druzy fragments, evoking the postage-stamp-sized backyards struggling beneath high-rise overshadowing. The use of raw, imperfect stones like this with unique, unrepeatable inclusions is a signature feature of my practice and serendipitously aligns with the exhibition theme, Only Once. These irreproducible stones stand as proxies for individual human lives - proving that while the urban world may seem vast and anonymous, it is actually a tapestry of singular, unrepeatable histories that merely go unnoticed amidst a sprawling concrete expanse.

Working from her garden studio in Northern Sydney, Regina Krawets creates small wearable sculptures that explore the intersection of nature and architecture. Drawing on both her natural surroundings and a previous career in interior design, she combines semi-precious stones with geometric forms that embrace imperfection, reflecting the tension between organic complexity and humanity’s impulse to impose order.
Increasingly, Regina is drawn to stones that remain unfinished and raw; marked by inclusions, fractures, unexpected patterns and areas of opacity. Formed over millennia through unseen geological forces, each stone carries a singular history that can never be repeated. These unique formations serve not only as reminders of the extraordinary processes of the natural world, but also as metaphors for human experience. Like the stones she selects, people are shaped by time, circumstance and adversity, acquiring the marks that make them distinct. In a world that often values uniformity and perfection, Regina’s work celebrates individuality, finding beauty in the once-only qualities that make every stone, and every life, unique.

Please note*
This piece is part of an exhibition, so when purchased please know that it will ship after the exhibition finishes on 27th September 2026.
