Four Directions Silver & Pearl Earrings - Kate Alterio

The Four Directions earrings are an elegant design in sterling silver from NZ maker Kate Alterio. A single natural lavender pearl hangs from one of the collection's signature framework shapes in satin-surfaced sterling silver.

These earrings measure approximately 42mm from the top of the hook to the bottom of the earring and are approximately 11mm wide.

These earrings are part of a collection called 'Illusion Of Form', which speaks to the frameworks we create for ourselves of our personality, social status, gender, ethnicity, age, spiritual or religious beliefs. On the surface this speaks of us as individuals and can create an illusion of separateness. However, on the inside something ethereal, mysterious, unknowable and intangible is ever-present. 

Kate Alterio is a contemporary jeweller and visual artist based on the Kapiti Coast in New Zealand. Through creative expression, she explores spiritual and metaphysical themes, sacred geometry and the tension between opposites. Working predominantly in silver, gold and pearls, she makes use of repetition, recurring patterns, geometric forms and subtle details. Kate takes a minimalist design approach to convey her conceptual ideas.
