Romy Mittelman
Heroine's Bell Earrings - Romy Mittelman
The ancient practice of lost wax casting is very much alive in Romy Mittelman’s work. She loves experimenting with the wax’s texture and malleability before it is cast into silver or gold. Her latest range explores spiritual and religious iconography, elevating the multi-talented and multi-tasking everyday heroines of contemporary society to the realm of the immortals. Romy’s journey as a jeweller began in 2003 in Rome, and she now shares her wealth of knowledge with jewellery students at Melbourne Polytechnic.
In the Heroine’s story, she delves into the treacherous terrain of her soul, encountering battles with her own psyche to slay her limitations – with fabulous results! In her battle, she is able to draw on hidden talents and resources, as symbolised by charms in this collection, to return to herself as an enlightened and world-beating woman. The collection’s singular ‘Everywoman’ figure is depicted as cutting off her girlish braids in a defiant act of adult autonomy.
