Gumnut Oxidised Silver Ring - Melinda Young

Made in the NSW South Coast studio of visual artist and craftsperson Melinda Young, the Bushwalker series explores the small forms found in nature. This sterling silver ring has been cast directly from gumnuts, forming a striking cluster on the band, and then partially oxidised to a blended silver and grey finish.

Band is 7mm wide, gumnut cluster is approximately 19mm diameter and sits 13mm high.

Melinda Young lives and works on Dharawal Country on the south coast of NSW. Her research-based practice spans jewellery, textiles, and interactive public art projects, exploring place and materiality. She combines colour and texture in combination with found and reclaimed materials objects, natural materials, precious metals and stones to produce bold, eye-catching jewellery. The tiny details of her environs, both natural and built/designed, provides a constant creative stimulus for her creative practice.  Melinda’s award-winning work has been exhibited extensively in Australia and internationally since 1997, and has been included in numerous publications and is held in public collections.
