Mother of pearl, oxidized sterling silver, freshwater pearl.

It is titled "Panels" after the panels that hold Pinctada Maxima Oysters suspended from a rope, out at sea in a south sea pearl farm.

The vast majority of the work I have made since 2016 has been inspired by my time living and working on the Dampier Peninsula 250kms north of Broome at the Oldest family owned South Sea Pearl Farm in Australia.

The Mother of Pearl I hand cut for these earrings comes from the Pinctada Maxima Oyster that is responsible for creating Australia's incredible South Sea Pearls.

Whilst the pearl on one of the earrings is not a south sea pearl, it is beautiful, rugged and undulating like the landscape and the waterways of the northernmost tip of Australia.

Laura Eyles’ creative practice is fuelled by adventure and lived experience. From driving 80-tonne dump trucks at Australia’s largest open pit gold mine to working at the Dampier Peninsula’s historic South Sea Pearl farm, her immersion in remote Australian landscapes and industries has shaped a deep respect for materials and process. Having navigated personal loss, Laura‘s recent work explores human existence, inviting joy and play into her practice. Her extensive education spans Fine Arts, Art Curatorship, Jewellery, and Business. A former Jewellery Department Tafe department leader, she now serves as General Manager of e.g.etal, driven by a passion for contemporary jewellery and making.
