I wanted my first entry into an exhibition to be a piece that paid homage to my birth country - the place where I was given my first demonstration on silversmithing. This ring draws inspiration from the Sala flower, known to grow there. I carved the ring in wax and had it cast in sterling silver. I contoured the cultured freshwater pearl to sit within the pearl cup, and embedded it with fine silver granulation and a tube-set peridot. This design is imbued with symbolism and sentimentality.

Dilani is a contemporary jeweller from Melbourne. She began her creative journey when she joined a lapidary club, going on to complete a Certificate ll in Engineering - Jewellery, and an Advanced Diploma in Jewellery and Object Design at Melbourne Polytechnic. 
A love of coloured precious stones is central to Dilani's practice, and the exploration of how they interact with their settings and surface finishes often influences the evolution of her designs. Dilani draws much inspiration from organic textures in nature, and the repetition in patterns from her South Asian heritage. Using the meditative process of lost wax casting alongside technical traditional fabrication methods, her pieces aim to strike a balance between these detailed elements and simplistic, understated forms to create pieces that evoke a sense of whimsy.
