Unhinged Necklace by Fiona Meller
Only Once - Contemporary Jewellery Exhibition 2026
Sterling silver, magnets.
Pendant 15.5 x 4.55cm, chain length 74cm.
This piece has been in various stages of creation for the past 10 years.
Brought into being because of my love of hinges, movement and articulation.
This piece has had many names and many iterations.
Most commonly known as Bob.
Bob has been, at various times, armless, legless, headless, gutless and frequently discombobulated!
Always looking for that better joint, that better swivel, that better articulation.
I think now he is at peace with himself.
I think now, even though he has become slightly unhinged, I am satisfied with his current state and am happy to let him be.
There will be no other.
Fiona Meller creates sculptural jewellery and object-based works that investigate the relationship between body, movement and space. Working across jewellery, installation and sculpture, she experiments with diverse materials and forms to create objects that carry visceral and symbolic meaning. Her practice is informed by socio-economic, geo-political and environmental concerns, reflecting on the tensions between fragility, resilience and transformation. Through wearable and spatial works, Fiona explores how objects can hold memory, provoke emotional response and invite dialogue between the personal and collective experience.
