Ari Athans
Ari Athans is a Brisbane-based artist working across jewellery, sculpture, and painting. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Geology from UTS and worked in the mining and exploration industry before completing Jewellery and Object Design at Randwick TAFE. Her science background heavily informs her choice of materials and the knowledge she brings to the design process.
Athans' work is pared back, emphasising hard and soft geometric forms balanced with organic shapes in both metal and stone. Her interest in geologic samples, such as gemstones in unusual cuts, always aims to bring out the best in Earth's materials. "I am particularly interested in earth time and processes and how jewellery can express this so perfectly."
Ari has exhibited regularly for the last 30 years, nationally and internationally, and her work is held in private and public collections. Most notably, she has shown at Munich Schmuck, Sydney Contemporary, and Triennale di Milano Museum, and recently worked with UAP to produce a public artwork in Wentworth Point, Sydney.
