Mineral Mix Double Length Neckpiece - Ari Athans
A long strand of blue and white mineral beads is punctuated by three oversized brushed silver tubes, creating a bold composition of colour, scale and contrasting surfaces.
Handmade by Ari Athans in Brisbane, whose work explores unexpected combinations of material, colour and form.
The neckpiece brings together dumortierite, blue chalcedony, aquamarine and howlite, arranged in distinct sections that allow the colour and character of each mineral to emerge in turn. Three 20 mm brushed sterling silver tube beads interrupt the smaller stones, introducing a strong sculptural element and a striking shift in scale. Finished with a handmade large silver quatrefoil clasp, the generous 89 cm length celebrates Ari’s distinctive way of combining geological materials with simple, unexpected metal forms. Ari's background in geology continues to inform her use of stones and minerals throughout her jewellery practice.
