Sky Jewels Round Studs - Clare Hooper
Clare Hooper is a Sydney based jeweller.
Clare's practice is about depicting moments in time while moving through the world, from objects and places that are both mundane and extraordinary. The very nature of jewellery being small, portable and wearable fulfills her need to always have them with her.
These round studs are from a collection of work called Sky Jewels and The Sea Calls.
The studs for Sky Jewels are based on a photo from Clare's collection of sky images that she has amassed over the years. The earrings with their enamelled colours, have now become a souvenir of a moment in time. The Sea Calls is an earlier iteration of her ideas on the souvenir using enamelled earrings.
These earrings are made using the process of torch-fired enamelling.
The type of enamel used is vitreous enamel which is ground glass. In these earrings there are 4 layers fused individually with a soldering torch.
